Designer and maker of aesthetically pleasing medical aids and devices
I am in the fourth year studying MDes 3D Materials Practice at the University of Brighton.
The materials I have specialised in are Metal and Plastics. My third year research and work has been questioning preconceived ideas about medical appliances and trying to turn those preconceptions on their head. My main topic of interest focusses on medical equipment, its aesthetic qualities and desirability.
I aim to explore a conceptual and ideas-led approach to the making of medical instruments which sometimes serve more of a playful purpose than functional. The direction of my work has been influenced by my interests in medical curiosities, internal organs, illness and hospital equipment such as prosthetic limbs and antique operation implements.
I am currently working as a research intern for the V&A collating images and objects for an exhibition due to open in 2015.
In addition to this, I am working with Philippa Aldrich and The Future Perfect Company to design and build a stand to display student work at Generation Expo. Visit my blog to read more about it.
